Hi,

When we had this problem the Vet had a shot to help
the ewe release her milk.( Oxytoxin ?) It did work. Otherwise
we have used the dried milk re- placer without a problem.

Good luck,
Barbara

Hi, again. We don’t need milk replacer often, but when we do have used purina kid/lamb replacer with success. It comes in a gallon plastic tub. Has to be fresh – one year we made the mistake of using leftover from previous year – powder smelled okay but the lambs got sick on it. Now we store it in the freezer, and get fresh when needed (our local feed store just about always has it in the spring). I had an orphan lamb this spring and used the homemade formula of whole milk/ buttermilk/ canned milk and it worked great...... no scours at all. I do think it would be a good idea to leave her with her mom if she's being attentive. As Peg said it will help her be more socialized and think shes a sheep .......... Unfortunately my bottle baby had no mom to socialize her and now that she's weaned, though i encourage her to go be with the other sheep, she thinks she's a dog and would rather be with me and the dogs. Talk about funny........ a lamb running with the cattledogs herding the flock.....LOL joy From: "farmgirlarts at triad.rr.com" <farmgirlarts at triad.rr.com>

My yearling ewe that was bred by break-in ram in Jan. gave birth yesterday afternoon and has no milk. The lamb is TINY, but up and about. Mom cleaned her up and dotes on her, but no milk. I've fed the lamb 3 times with colostrum from my neighbor's goat. Suggestions? I plan to give lamb some probiotics next feeding and sheep milk preplacer.

Thanks,
Laura
