[Jacob-list] wool in heat

I wonder if there are differences in how well the wool protects against
heat by type. My down type sheep have handled the heat just fine and I can
believe that their wool* is* summer insulation. Our Cotswolds on the other
hand were open mouth panting, tongues hanging out, looking close to heat
stroke. Keeping in mind that they are Cotswolds (much bigger, thicker
bodied sheep to begin with ;-), their wool on the other hand basically
hangs off them, no loft. Re-shearing during the hottest week stopped about
90% of the heavy breathing. Now, regarding sun burn, yes, that would
definitely be an issue...except our sheep hang out in the barn and shed
about 90% of the day. Which creates it's *own* set of problems...
