I generally give 6 cc's following lacerations. Remember 10 cc = 2 teaspoon; really not that much for 100 pound animal. I would not double that... I do recommend you give sc; much easier on the ewe and works just as well.

Subject: [Jacob-list] Penicillin for sheep

I had to take a ewe to the vet to get her leg stitched up. My vet told
me to give her 10 ml of Penicillin for 6 days. I have a bottle of
Pen-Aqueous that recommends 1 ml per 100 lbs. I probably wouldn't have
questioned him about the dosage but 1 ml compared to 10 ml is quite a
bit of difference. His response was that the label on the bottles is
out of date and from the approval many years ago.

Is 10 ml too much to give to a 100 lb Jacob ewe? I have always heard
that the first dose should be a double shot as a booster. At double, 10
ml is a lot of penicillin for one shot.

Has anyone given that much to a Jacob ewe? Is my vet out of his mind?
If he had recommended 3-4 ml, I might not question it.
