[Jacob-list] buttons

I have a friend who wants to make horn buttons from his jacob sheep's horns, but is relatively clueless. He has many questions; can probably figureout how to slice the horns, drill holes, but the biggest question is how to preserve the buttons so the horn doesn't crack and split...So, does anyone out there make buttons and would you be willing to share how you do it?  He is located in NH. (so, if you're out west, and making buttons, his local thing isn't going to cut into your business!)Thanks. Betty!
