[Jacob-list] New Booklet "Guide to Selection of Jacob BreedingStock"

Fun to hear all this. The champion ram fleece at the old Fiberfest some years ago was entered by a friend of mine…thought by some to be Jacob as it had spotting. In actuality, it was Corriedale cross, with some Suffolk in there (probably among other things, but not including Jacob).

Oh yeah. And if you really want to see some fun colored genetics, mix them with a little Suffolk, like ol’ Mildred was. beautiful silver/tan fleece with white markings on her head. A friend took her Jacob ewe lamb and crossed her to the legendary John Henry, our silver Cotswold –Finn ram, and sold fleeces from THAT cross for $15 a lb. It looked like long silver kid mohair.

Corriedales can carry the piebald gene, can't they?

I recently saw a small flock of Katadins that included 3 piebald ewes. The man did said they were in the flock when he purchased them, and that they raised off the best lambs of the bunch. Having seen the same characteristics in 1/2 Corriedale/ 1/2 Jacob ewes, I wonder exactly how recessive the piebald gene is.
