Remember, the ewe that was called "loupy" and/or "loopy" is a yearling. I
have noticed that the lambs and yearlings are extremely wild and then the
sheep mellow out the older they get. I remember once I cornered four
wethered lambs and as I approached, hunched over to grab one or two. they
all jumped right over me and ran off. I didn't get hit, but it sure
surprised me. I should wear a helmet when I corner young Jacobs!! My old
gals of 12- and 13-years old lead well on a halter, by me, and come up to
me when I'm in the paddock. The younger sheep are the opposite. When I
lead (more like pull) yearlings and younger sheep they are like Mexican
jumping beans or they try and lie down flat. I think it is wonderful that
there are those of you who work with the youngsters and can show them by
using a halter and lead. It must take a lot of work. I do like my bottle
babies, they are tame and friendly, but they don't like to be led around
with lead and halter. At least they don't jump around and lie down.
