[Jacob-list] Hoof injury - update

Thanks for all the comments; surprised by the total agreement by
everyone to keep the shearer, which we will do.

I turned her out this am, she was not lame and eating well. Just spoke
with our vet; he recommends keeping the foot wrapped for 14 days,
dressing changes every 2 or 3 days and sprinkling the foot with
powdered tetracycline to combat foot rot and other infections.

Thanks again for all the helpful comments!

When we shear and trim hooves, we always have the soldering iron
plugged in! A touch to the deep nick seals it and we rarely have a
re-bleed. We usually do the CDT when we shear. FWIW, we do the shots
and hoof trims, so it might be hard to fire us!
