[Jacob-list] Showing Jacobs

Although we have been in the showring  (Estes Park Wool Festival) with  our 
Jacob's Once before...
 
I was cruising around the Internet... and found this website

In looking at she"showing" information, this site, as well as another I  
found.. Both said that they WASH the sheep prior to the show.
 
Just curious why this practice is done in Europe, but not in the  US?
