[Jacob-list] Jacob-list Digest, Vol 33, Issue 15

I've had several lambs choke and I beat on both sides of their chest at the same time and rub their throat. This seems to break it loose and are immediatly better. It's so scary to watch! There is so much excitement when the feed comes out and everyone is rushing to eat as much as they can, as fast as they can. Feeding hay first would probably help, except we feed the big round bales, so that doesn't work for us. I just make sure everyone is done eating before I leave, so I can be there, just in case.

I just want to say that I enjoy reading all your messages and have learned a lot from all your expierences. Keep up the good work.
Gail

>I have a jacob ewe who seems to have choked on her grain tonight. She appears to still have some lodged in her airway. She's a little frothy at the mouth as she's been trying to clear her airway. I can see her attempting to swallow and her airway is a little noisy. she is not in a panic but clearly still has some obstruction. Thank you.

>It's okay. Ewe has managed to clear her throat but what does one do normally when this happens. I have had one of my shetlands recently choke also on grain. I patted her back like I did my infants years ago but it was just instinct. It makes me nervous about graining even my ewes who are lactating. Many thanks. Pam
