[Jacob-list] AGM

Peg...The JSBA has never "said" that the Jacob Show at
the New Jersey State Fair was is not "important". The
Board has never addressed/discussed this issue. The
organization is dedicated to maintaining a registry
and preserving the Jacob Breed--and takes no position
on "showing" Jacobs.
While some breeders believe (and I am one of them)
that "showing" our Jacobs is a way to promote the
breed to potential shepherds, if the membership were
polled on this issue (and there is no reason to do so)
there might very well be more JSBA members who don't
want to show their Jacobs.
For those of us who do show...we realize that often,
the Judges will place the "larger" Jacobs at the top
of the class...which can give a false impression to
the public that "bigger is better". And...there is a
fear that breeders could overlook the great many other
qualities that Jacobs possess...and go for "size"
above all else.
I too have brought more than my share of Jacobs to the
same shows that you have gone to. Over 20 to
Maryland, at least 8-10 to the New Jersey State Fair;
18 to the Garden State Sheep & Fiber Festival; and
10-12 to the South Jersey Sheep & Wool Festival.
You've drawn a false conclusion that: by having a
conflict with the dates of the 2007 JSBA AGM and the
NJ State Fair...that the JSBA has, somehow, decided
that the NJ Jacob show is not important. IT's wrong
for you to assume that, and it's just not true.
Here's an idea, Peg...the New Jersey State Fair runs
10 days, or so. What about checking with CeCe to see
if a Jacob show could be held on the second weekend?
If this isn't possible, I repeat my offer to provide
you with contact information of other Jacob breeders
who attended last year's Garden State Sheep & Fiber
Festival (a record no. of Jacobs/breeders) to see if
some of them might want to attend the Sussex County
event.
Regards,
Bob May
