  I didn't take it that you meant we shouldn't have our sheep.  I'm not clear as to what you mean by "out of area" animals?  The Jacobs that ran on Butter Island off the coast of Maine for X years (I forgot how long - someone fill me in - but it was years) with very little, if any, human intervention did pretty well.  Is Maine out of area for Jacobs?  We have some breeders in Maine and I think they probably have to buy hay and may have to supplement with grain sometimes. The difference is not the area or the climate.  The difference is the size of the area, not where the area is.  If you confine your sheep, which most (probably all) of us do, you may be called upon to supply something that your sheep can't find on their own in the unnatural confinement that we subject our flocks to.  I know we have successful flocks in the Dallas, TX area where the temps are HOT and I know we have Jacobs that lamb outside in PA in the winter.  Jacobs seem to be very adaptable to temps as well as to different management techniques.  I understand abit of what you are saying, but wonder where would be "in area" for our Jacobs?
