Linda, 
I guess we sort of take our sheep wheeling and dealing for granted.  But "non sheep" friends of ours are always amazed at our sheep net work - and a bit envious.   Just last weekend some of us met at Ralene and Randy Mischler's in PA for lunch and a "sheep exchange."   It involved sheep either going or coming from NY, NJ, PA, CO, NEB,  NC and TN.   This weekend a similiar event will happen here at our place.  We are looking forward to catching up with Jacob breeders from ME, MI, NJ, and VT.   Al.ways fun to see friends again as well as see the sheep they are getting.

  I find how we get the sheep from there to here really interesting.  When I first got Jacobs, there were very few Jacobs in this area (and some of them were probably not really Jacobs).  The chance to get Craft's Ruby's Belle along with Patrice's sheep being delivered by Bob Norton from Iowa in 1995 was way too good to pass up.  RubyBelle is still here (and will always be).  IMHO, transportation is important for conservation.

  This year I added a ewe from Colorado - she was picked up in Colorado by a breeder from Oregon that was heading to Tennessee.  A TN breeder picked her up  on the route along with sheep heading to PA.  I met the TN breeder in a restaurant parking lot to get my ewe.  I took delivery on a ewe from Oregon one year going to another breeder who picked up my ewe from Michigan and we traded sheep in a McDonald's parking lot.  

  When I look over my flock, I am frequently reminded of just what a great bunch of people Jacob breeders are.  It's common for breeders to offer to bring sheep from other flocks if they are making a trip and have room.  

  I still have to laugh, though, about the time that I'd bought some sheep and the delivery included sheep for other breeders.  Dave just got wide-eyed and said "are these ALL ours?"
