Thanks to all who responded with suggestions on how to calm and treat
"Stubby". The vet (students and instructor from the University here) rechecked him
today, and the ulcer seems to have healed, being replaced by what looks like a
blister. The outer layer of the cornea seems to have a fluid filled pocket on
it. Doesn't appear to be deep. They didn't do anything today, but plan to
consult a vet eye specialist and come back on Monday. We'll keep up the
antibiotics until then. I think I can get everyone to continue the chase now that we
know there's an end in sight! (no pun intended!)

I asked about suturing the eye closed, and was told they do that rather
frequently in cattle, but just stitch the third eyelid closed to keep the sun out.
The eye heals on it's own. Thanks for the heads up on that one. And I also
liked the idea of putting a halter on him with a rope attached. Although I can
see him wrapped around a tree. Yesterday I took the advice of keeping him
guessing, since I think he knows there's trouble when he sees me and my husband
together. So I stayed inside while darling hubby and the three girls went
into the pen. They had him caught in about 2 minutes.

I'm learning something new everyday, but I think they're learning faster.

Thanks again for all the help!

Kathey
