But I did not want to donate a horned sheep to a youth - does anyone else give away sheep except at the MD wool festival and the like?

I've had a few Jacob crosses because I had a few other breeds here and only used Jacob rams. But ALL of those offspring were butchered and they made wonderful pelts. I think that if someone doesn't like the horns they should find another breed. There are plenty of breeds out there without horns, including those with unusual colors and facing markings (CVM's are a favorite of mine). If someone buys a "looks-like-a-Jacob-except-for-the-horns" sheep, somewhere down the line there is going to be someone else who, with the best of intentions, wants to register offspring. That opens up a big can of worms and may alienate people who might become new enthusiastic Jacob breeders if they aren't turned off early in their Jacob experience.
