shape of the horns, the time of year, the
temperature, how many ewes are in heat, if you have given the "darlings"
enough attention yadda, yadda, yadda, it will make
a difference on how hard they ram the said structure. One thing that I used
to help protect the house though is to "put up a
diversion", one diversion to protect flowers was a second fence, to protect
a gate area was a semi-circle of "muck tubs", with
grass planted in them, kinda like they were at a drive through for lunch. I
would not give up having them where you can see
them, but we have had to be creative. Like cinder blocks wired to bottom of
wire fence, squirt bottles or guns when we are
working near fence, they try to climb over, look like kittens. I never go
into a pen without a escape route planned and stratigically places poles or
fence panels to duck behind just in case they take that " tell tale two step
back." I would not change a thing, I love my Jacobs, they are the most
intellegent of any sheep I have been around, and I swear I see a grin when I
get a ram back in, and he tries to outrun me to get to the spot he found to
get out of.
