Hi,  I'm sorry to hear about your lambs.  My advice would be to lamb them in
the field and jug after the ewes give birth.  I've done with with all my
sheep - shetlands and jacobs and never had a problem.  The two best managed
jacob flocks I've ever seen also do this with excellent results; in fact one
of them rarely jugged them at all.  Jacobs are a sturdy, canny sheep that
shouldn't need you to hold their hooves at lambing time anyway; this is why
I love a primitive breed.
