[Jacob-list] fescue

These are naturally occurring fungi that infect the seed and is normally transmitted in the seed from parent plant to seedlings. Endophyte infected fescue is the normal type, and is sold for lawns and has been the primary type for pastures in this area because of its production and persistence under difficult conditions. The toxicity is worse in heat, but for beef cattle, there is little that can stand winter grazing in our climate better than stock-piled fescue. Several "organic" catalogs sell very high priced super endophyte strains of fescue for "low maintenance" lawns. They stay green all year and are so toxic that lawn pests won't touch them. Low endophyte strains of fescue have been developed by seed companies, but are expensive.

Have I interpreted this correctly that the fungus comes with the seed as supplied by a seed merchant and is designed that way ? Or is it a wild fungus which just happens to infest your pastures ?
