Hi Betty,
About just pulling the weeds? We read about
stinging nettles and the worst thing you can do is
pull them or cut them because then they really spread.
You have to wait till they are at an exact stage of
growth...flower buds but not blooming yet to spray
them with something like roundup so it will absorb it
into the rizomes and then you have a chance of having
an impact. In determining what kind of weed it was we
pulled one plant up and the stinging part is oh so
true. I would hate to try and pull the nasty/ painful
things up even if it would work. It has been a week
since spraying and they are still standing tall and
green ( and laughing behind me back).
Is there a more complete name to the broad leaf
spray "Ally"? Here if you call the agric. agent you
get connected to Master Gardeners line and they have
no idea about anything but lawns and flowers.
Interestingly, we never had stinging nettles before
but this year we seeded with clover and grasses in a
commercial pasture mix. The seed must have been
contaminated?
Nibbles still does not have her lambs yet. She can
hardly walk because her udder is so full. She has
looked like a Holstein for 10 days. We put her in a
warm place every night and I think she does not want
to end a goood thing. She has all the signs for those
same 10 days of dropped belly, hip bones looking high
and soft ligaments around the tail. There are not any
vets in this county except dog/cat/horse so no one to
ask but I am beginning to wonder if they have died in
there? How would I know?
