Well, I thought I'd been clever with my pen arrangements this spring being
alternately goats and sheep, but I should never have put the goat whose
triplets died right next to a ewe with newborn twins. Olivia (the goat) has
tried every which way to break into the sheep pen, she wants those babies.
And the sudden thaw has surprised those not involved in the population
explosion. They're out in the field looking at the grass with a puzzled
expression.
While I'm here.........if anyone is in Ontario and desperate for a ram
close-by, I have a spare. He wouldn't win any prizes, for looks (facial
markings uneven) but he's placid and his fleece his lovely. For anyone more
into wool than showing, he's up for grabs at just $150 CDN (14 months old).
BUYER COLLECTS.

Dear listers-
The list has been quiet, so here is another of those over-zealous
(grand)mother stories:
Achta joined our flock a few years ago and this past fall, her mother,
Particle joined also. They had been separate for over a year, but had been
together for over a year before that. I watched them when they
re-united...thought I saw a funny reaction from Particle "Wha-a-a? YOu
again?" and then they went about their business. During their pregnancies
this winter though, I have noticed them together much more.
This morning Achta when started showing signs of labor, Particle stayed on
her like glue. I left for work and came back this afternoon to see 2 wet
ewe lambs on the ground with not one but two mommies cleaning them off!
Particle was about as involved as a grandmother could get. Both lambs
looked like their bellies were full and I almost felt like leaving Particle
to act as midwife...although something tells me she saw herself as a bit
more than that. She even wanted to clean off afterbirth that had not yet
left Achta. Crazy girl. I put Achta and her lambs in the nursery pasture
and Particle has been beside herself. Someone give me earplugs!
