The ram determines the sex of the lamb.
The ewe determines the number of lambs.
The lamb determines the birth date.

The weatherman determines the "bad weather days" for lambing concerns and
problems. On our worst day (rain, sleet, 35 mile winds from the north, 30
degrees) a ewe decided to nest and the lambs decided to emerge in the
farthest corner of open pasture about 1/4 mile from the "lean to". We walked
the twins, ewe following, to the barn. I sympathize for the "northern"
shepherds.
