I have also noticed the preference for snow over water last winter.  Thought it odd.  I go through all kinds of exertion to keep their water tank filled, clean and thawed, and the silly things go out and lick the ice where the snow melt has run into the low spots on the pasture and frozen.  I keep threatening to just let their water freeze up so they would like it better, but so far haven't done that.  I wonder if this is a survival instinct from the primitive breed, to use whatever is available, or if they are just too lazy to walk a few feet back to the tank.  Whatever it is, it is just one more interesting thing about Jacobs
