[Jacob-list] Voluntary Scrapie Program

Fred and Matt ...

Matt first, you have to cut a section of the lymph gland in the eye, it
is a three vet process according to the scrapie program vet in this
area. You only do it to a sick/suspect animal, it is not definitive,
only brain sections can do that. Unfortuantely sectioning a brain tends
to leave the animal in a worthless state, as it is first removed from
the animal.

Fred,

It is my understanding that the primary mechanism of disease
transmission is vertical from mother to offspring, usually in the blood
/ afterbirth. Lateral transmission is rare. I think the prions must be
injested or injected, not inhaled but perhaps someone could correct me
... ( I got the same lecture from the vet and my cell bio literature
...)
