Hi Carl and all,

I didn't want to put the full medical stuff with personal....

My problem here probably was caused by a couple of circumstances that
happened to get paired----ewe over her normal condition and a
more-than-happy dog (holding a deer leg in her mouth) that wanted to remain
with her flock (flock became frightened and wanted to stay away from
her----ie stress.) Bliss is 10 next month.

When I found her down and guarded by her sheep powerhouses, she was capable
of walking. She walked buckled up (same as you see in hypothermic lambs),
and did not always get her hooves on the ground---walked tippy-toed
occasionally. My husband was home that morning, and he helped lift her into
the back of the van and she promptly laid down for the ride to the vets.

The symptoms I could give were VERY non-specific---the kind that make you
look foolish taking them in, but ready to kick yourself to China if you
didn't and they died on you.

Temp was normal. Eyes were normal. Appetite normal. Hydration normal. No
prior symptoms/history outside of normal. Internal exam (sheep don't like
this one either!) normal. Palpation normal. Animal rumen sounds and
activity all there. Ears perky; affect normal and interested in
surroundings.

Blood work almost normal, but with glucose level on low end of normal
(consistent with early stage noted in Merck manual). Calcium level ok. All
other panel normal.

Vet recommended Treatment: 60 cc propylene glycol BID was basic
recommendation and to watch her and report back with any decline in
condition and to report back next am no matter what.

My treatment on return home:
5 cc B complex shot sub q,
1 cc Vit A&D shot IM (I now have A,D,E and would have preferred that),
75 cc cocktail propylene glycol (50 cc) and EITHER Nutradrench (25 cc) or
cattle super calorie solution (25 cc).
I continue to watch the eyes/membranes, and would add an iron shot if they
start to pale out any. Calcium will be another issue to watch for.....

I did the cocktail version for two reasons: Laura Lawson says that the
propylene glycol is not always tasted (just like putting oil in them, and
that can be fatal as they will inhale it), and these other formulas have
vitamins/minerals in addition to the propylene glycol base. I have also
(every other day) popped a 400 IU human Vitamin E capsule and blended this
in with the mix.

I am down to 60 cc morning and night of the cocktail, but did use up to 75
cc three times a day to get her pulled back up the first couple days when
she seemed to keep getting worse instead of better.

WAYNE----where are you?? I like your advice and you can say it better than
me.... I did get in her left side last night, and that works slicker than
the right side---like that!
