We just had a few rams butchered and collected the skins and salted them
down, as we have done before. Prior to this we had the sheepskins
prepared just as they were with no shearing. Since these rams were 10
mos. old and their fleeces were pretty long I am wondering about having
them sheared but wanted some advice on what length to have them sheared
to - the tanner we use (Bucks County Fur Products) will shear from 5/8"
to 2". And suggestions/ideas regarding length would be appreciated.
Also, have you found that the machine washable sheepskins to be
acceptable - do they look OK with machine washing? Thanks.
