Our county fair is going on this week, and one breeder has two lilac 
(grey-brown) Jacobs there. Both have the black leg spotting. We were all 
sitting around today talking about what a lilac could be genetically. We 
decided it would be fun to try Fred's 1 tsp. of bleach to a cup of water test 
for pheomelanin or eumelanin. Suzy Ivan's lamb donated the lilac wool. Fred 
didn't say in his artical how long to soak the wool, so we decided one hour 
should tell us if the wool would fade. Well, the hour passed and there was no 
fading. That would indicate the lilac wool is eumelanin. We left the wool in 
the solution overnight and will check it again in the morning.
