[Jacob-list] Quilting

Does anyone know what causes quilting ?  It seems so biologically 
unneccesary, not to mention silly looking !  I can't think of any way it 
would help the sheep survive or reproduce, etc.  There must be a reason 
though, nature always has a purpose,  unless this is something we have 
created in our breeding efforts.  Robin Casasanto
