In 1963 when I came to Austin the air was cleaner, the country was
closer, wild flowers grew on the margins of the sidewalks and streams
flowed through the city. Population was around 130,000. Food prices were
unbelievably cheap compared to up north and rent apartments as well.
Life was carefree and blythe. Fast-forward almost 60 years and we are -
surprise! - much older but not dead yet. /Sic transit gloria steinem!/
