We have a cellphone now finally. It is a smart phone but we're only
contracting for phone calls. Supposed to be $15 a month from Consumer
Cellular but they lay on the $15 $3+ in phone taxes, so it costs over
$18 a month just for phoning. Actually any smart phone can access the
Internet even with just basic phone service if in proximity to an open
wi-fi access point.
Big news. You have to wait 3 rings before answering an incoming call
while the phone and phonecall do a handshake by setting the parameters
of their data flow. We discovered that just this week. That fact is NOT
called to your attention in the manual for the phone. Can you believe?
We only found out from a YouTube amateur video on how to answer an
incoming phone call. Sliding your finger towards a green phone icon -
but not visible if phone is black and shut down - and not sliding your
finger the other way towards a red phone icon to not accept the phone
call and press on that. The YouTube guy mentioned the wait 3 ring
instruction at the beginning of his video about the green and red icons.
Aha! We tried it out and it works infallibly. Imagine that not being in
the instructions!.
You can see folks who have mastered 2 thumb typing on a virtual keyboard
which is a very classy act. I can touch type fast which I taught myself
during the summer before going to college. The general rule which Sandy
Lockett taught me is that multi-purpose tools are a /pis aller/ to
single-purpose tools. So Charlie, if you have a computer at home, and
you do, you're wasting your time trying to get up to speed on a teeny
tiny muli-purpose Swiss knife-ey smartphone.
