[AGL] a Chinese mystery

a Chinese friend told me that the 45 storey skyscraper pictured here was 
built by/is owned by Chinese money. it was finished about 5 months ago 
and to this date has NO tenants. Note the absence of balcony furniture 
on all the hundreds of balconies. Driving by recently I saw 2 window 
washers hanging half-way up the building like house flies. I suspect the 
architect sold them a bill of goods - imagine the acres of glass to keep 
clean for the tenants if there ever are any.

My theory is that it is another example of Chinese money fleeing abroad 
- Chinese business men who have made fortunes in the usual Chinese way - 
by every crooked means possible which is SOP in China - yet know that 
their freedom hangs by a thread: fall out of favor with the local 
government crooks to the machinations of your rivals and you will spend 
the rest of your life in prison for corrupt biz practices at best, 
assuming that you are not executed and your organs harvested. Put the 
ownership of the apartments in the name of your children and make every 
effort to expatriate them from Mother China. Note to self: find out the 
street address of the building and look it up in the property ownership 
rolls of the county which is online. See if the owners of individual 
units are listed whether by name or in the name of a trust.
