Ah. They are a real treat to encounter. I saw my first one while paddling around the diving board at Bartons one early morning

Randy and I admired a lovely yellow-crowned night heron in the back yard this past weekend. It was perched on the edge of my pond.  Today I went out to feed my pond goldfish and found that the population of about 30+ (4" sized) was reduced to about, I think I saw 3. The pond has been there for more than 10 years and this is the first time this has happened. I will have to go back to the pet store and score a few more. The little fish do a great job on mosquito larvae.
