[AGL] RIP Pat Brown

Mike: She must have been visiting as she gave me the painting that she won the fellowship to study enameling in Austria (?) in 1964.  My dad married her mother in 1963 and we were step-sisters for about 12 years there.  Her mom died in 1975.  Anyway...I was blessed to know her and have a piece of her art to look at and remember what a fantastic artist she was.  I saw her last a few years ago at Gilbert's showing at Planet K.  Her cancer had returned at that time but she was so upbeat about it.  Our Austin family has lost a courageous, gracious lady whose smile was so very beautiful and gladdened us all.

    Pat died of cancer. She had had breast cancer way back

    and was in remission for many years. Last year or the

    year before it came back. 

    

    I think I have that more or less right.  Pat was a subscriber

    to  AGL and if Dave Stark, her partner and husband for

    many years reads this, I want to say that I and everyone

    who knew Pat will miss her terribly. She had ENORMOUS 

    dignity and presence, she always had this.  I remember first

    meeting her at Ranger parties often in Gilbert's apartment on 

    West 22nd when I first came to Austin in 1963. This may 

    have been before she went to study art at the Cleveland 

    Art Institute or she may have been back from Cleveland and

    visiting Austin. She was impressive.

                      She slept peacefully through the night with David

                      lieu of a funeral service.  Today a friend
                      reminded us of a Patty-ism, "you can never have
