If they have Bhaji On the Beach I would be surprised. It's Bollywood but made in
UK and priceless. If you can get it a group of the girls together for a
mini-housewarming it would be fun to watch it together.
Best,
Frances

Subject: [AGL] movies again
signed up for Netflix streaming, instead of cable tv in Austin house. The
internet based service allows me to download movies to my blu-ray player queued
ready to play when I'm ready. I rate the movies occasionally, as well as give
Netflix my 'preferences' so they suggest accordingly. Very slick process.
This week, I watched a couple of interesting dark, suspense flicks. The
Machinist (2004) staring Christian Bale (a Batman). For this role he lost 60
pounds, looking deathly and always anguished...kept me puzzled 'til the
satisfactory end.
The other was a well-acted sci-fi story Moon (recent). Sam Rockwell is the only
actor seen in the film, and I won't give it away, but there are more Sams, he
plays them all. Directors' father is David Bowie, btw. Roger Ebert says:
"Moon" is a superior example of that threatened genre, hard science-fiction,
which is often about the interface between humans and alien intelligence of one
kind of or other, including digital. John W. Campbell Jr., the godfather of this
genre, would have approved. The movie is really all about ideas. It only seems
to be about emotions. How real are our emotions, anyway? How real are we?
turned out to be fairly good suggestions from Netflix' AI program. Will also
take suggestions from discerning movie buffs, as Netflix seems to have a very
big library available.
the south Austin house on Williamson Creek faired just fine this week of heavy
rain. Rising water did not get very close at all.
