The ghetto party concept has been put back
in the closet after it had come back to life
for a few seasons.
A friend of mine now gone used to say "I'm
not getting my act together and taking it on the
road. I'm actually disassembling my act and
putting the pieces back in the closet."
He also said/used to say "T'aint a fit night
out for man nor boots." (he was from Maine)
other very funny things
the last partay that took up the threads of
the great Austin ghetto partay scene was
a recent one that a couple we all love threw
recently.
there were Roger Baker, Lorelei, Frances
Morey, Thorne Dreyer, me and my roommate,
Dian, Houston, David Martinez, Terry, Fontaine,
Pepi Plowman, others i am forgetting or didn't see.
as for Adicks, he painted/still paints? thin derivative
impressionistic abstractions. sort of like Leroy
Neiman's manner of painting vaguely impressionistic
which you will remember from old copies of Playboy.
saw my first Adicks paintings around 1964. glad to
hear he's still alive and kicking. people do go on
doing their thang sometimes for decades and decades.
or sometimes they do other things. mostly they stop
doing anything. one thing its easy to keep doing is
going to partays of a ghettoistic nature.
Critics have used the line "as unsatisfying as a Leroy
Neiman painting." you could say that about an
Adicks painting except nobody would know who
you are talking about.
