[AGL] Aloha Hula - Part 2

The large halau from Japan put on a good show.  Hula and all things Hawaiian are very popular in Japan, it is estimated that between 300,000 and 500,000 Japanese participate in Hula.

This is Ku'uleinani Hashimoto, the kumu hula for the Japanese group.  This must be a high point for her career, last night her group preformed on the stage at the Merrie Monarch Festival, the most important stage in the world of Hula, today she is dancing on the lawn with Hilo Bay in the back ground.  Few Japanese dancers could hope for more.



For the ladies; have you considered the benefits of the coconut shell bra?  These are like little hard-hats for the breasts.   If you are troubled by boys throwing stones at your breasts this would be the solution - all natural materials and they are shinny!



Let's pose for class pictures!  In the center are the Tahitian musicians.  Tahitian dance is characterized by a very fast beat on numerous wood log drums.  The movement of the hips is much faster and more vigorous, the girls are more excited and not shy about showing it.



Let's show a little leg girls - don't be shy!



And remember to smile - this is the Hula!



If there is Ali'i (royalty) of the Hula it is this guy, Uncle George Naope.  Now almost 80 years old he is a former kumu hula, entertainer and founder of the Merrie Monarch Festival.  Very much revered.  He is also a bit of a rascal - when the MC was trying to introduce him and citing all his accomplishments he was busy flipping her the finger and making motions indicating that what she was saying was like so much snot coming from ones nose.   Finally he was persuaded to do a little song, I thought it was going to be an embarrassing moment with this frail old guy getting up to do a song but it turned out to be toughly entertaining moment.  If you got the entertainer gene in you it never fades.


It's not an easy life being Ali'i - so much to do, sign autographs,


Receive tribute from your subjects - being Ali'i of anything can be a lot of work.



Of course no Hawaiian musical event could happen with out the Ukulele (leaping flea).
