These are wonderful. Were you at the church, Frances? I can't remember seeing you, and would like to give a full blown report - don't have much time this morning so am hoping that Michael will do it. And I will forward to this list anything that anybody posts to the other one.
I will say that many who spoke in the church used Molly quotes, and Linda Lewis (not sure who she is) read the first one (I paraphrase) "Next time I tell you all not to elect a Texas Governor as president, PAY ATTENTION!" The entire crowd of about 800 stood up and applauded wildly.
There were many, many heartfelt tributes, but my fave was my old friend Dave Richards tale of taking Molly down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon last September. Very sweet. It can be read in it's entirety on the texas observer website.
And finally, the music was outstanding - a acapella gospel choir singing perfectly at the start, songs by Eliza Gilkysen, and Marcia Ball, etc. And the finale: Marcia, et al doing "Honky Tonk Angel" and last, "Great Balls of Fire" in perfect Jerry Lee Lewis style. This, of course, got the crowd up on their feet, singing and clapping and wiggling their hips. Oddly, I shed more tears during this time than at any other point in the service.
