The January Science News reports that excess folic acid may harm the
nervous systems of people 60 or over if they are lacking in vitamin
B12. A Tufts University study found 23 percent of the 60+ study group
had low B12; and within that group those having the highest
concentrations of folic acid were 2.6 times as likely to show signs of
cognitive impairment.

Vegetarians and people over 60 often lack B12. U.S. food manufacturers
have been legally required to add folic acid to grain products, so if
you are a vegetarian or over 60 and lack B12, your donuts may make you
fat AND stupid.

In yet another setback for peak whale oil theorists, two independent
discoveries have improved the material in fuel cell electrodes, making
them both cheaper and almost indestructible, so even Ford may have a
financial turnaround in its future.
