Reminds me (at 3.45 Friday morning, getting ready to head for the train
station) of how Steve McQueen, escaping his Stalag on a stolen BMW, is if
you will look closely riding a British big twin (probably a Turnip), which
he jumps over a huge fence (yes, he did it - no stunt guy).
Another such error is in The Wild One: ask any Murken what bike Marlon
Brando was riding in that rather tame epic and they'll tell you "Oh a
Hardly-Ableson, of course!"
Wrong again. Also a Triumph. You can see the engine configuration in the
still shot (Miss Brando looking considerably prettier than the Hell's
Angels who followed the trend).
Finally, sound editors will usually dub in a 'potato-potato' Harley-fart
on the soundtrack of a film or TV wheezer, no matter what brand of bike
the character is astride. Probably because it has an unmistakable
'motorcycle' sound.
Harumph.
