Jon,

But i dont speak Czech. Whereas in paris
i get to practice my fractured french.

Did i tell you about going to the police
station? I wanted to ask a cop if i
really had to carry my passport around
or would they accept an American
drivers license if i was stopped and asked
for my papers. Vos papiers d'identite
s'il vous plait Monsieur. That's what they
say. So i went in and first i said Je suis
un touriste americain. Puis-je vous
demander quelque chose? He gave me a
fishy stare and said j'ecoute. im listening

so i fractured some french to the effect
of did i have to carry my passport
bla bla bla.

He said Yes.

Then he asked if i had my passport
with me. Oui oui monsieur i said and i
departed out of that gloomy substation
(in a store space).

part of the fun of being in Paris is fighting
your way through the resistance of their
otherness. it's an effort but it's also to
be in a magical kingdom if you find that you
are actually pushing your way through
the resistance.long live fractured french.

Mike
