[AGL] Kinky begins his move (post no. 33 of the day)

One afternoon in about 1977 Eddie Wilson and I had just finished smoking a
big joint in his first restaurant, the original Raw Deal. The place was
closed for the afternoon and the blinds were drawn. There was a loud knock
at the door and he got up to answer it. Who should appear but the Mayor of
Austin, Carole Keeton McClellan and 2 or 3 aides (professional looking
women).
He let them in and they joined us around a large table. The residual smoke
from the joint was thick in the little room as was its odor. But they didn't
know what it was. We engaged in a conversation which got lighter and giddier
as it went on. Finally it got downright silly.
When it ended they exited and went on up the street, filled with giddy
laughter, stoned as dogs. We wondered for a minute, assessing the risk we
might have taken by admitting them. Then we broke up. I half expected them
to come back. To this day I don't believe they knew what the smoke was or
why our little conversation became so light and funny.
