Clifton?
Always thought it was Clifford.
Interesting fellow, Antone. Can't say that we were good friends but we knew
one another for a long time and always got along well. Opened the first
underground night club on 6th Street, just about the first night club on 6th
street. But the club on Guadalupe (formerly a Shakey's Pizza Parlor) was the
place where the blues scene in Austin matured. Spent many a night there and
worked a few gigs too. Ah yes, all the blues children who grew into mature
performers courtesy of Mr. A. who bankrolled many a performer and kept some
of the best ones on salary at a time when the norm was a percentage of the
gate.

I suppose there will be an obligatory memorial jam. I would like to be
there...nah, just a bunch of old people I wouldn't recognize...I guess
Angela and Denny and who knows who all will be in town for the occasion.

The 8th annual Silver City Blues Fest is this weekend. It's an outdoor
affair and a huge gathering for bikers. I don't go anymore. Still like the
blues but rarely listen to them anymore. The lineup at this fest rarely
contains anyone I ever heard of. So many "blues bands" these days. I guess
Clifford shares some of the credit for this phenomena--and the blame.
