[AGL] Houston Retort

Mutant Dreyer.

I disagree with your comment about Austinites being the "most self-righteous human beings ever gathered in one place." Surely most people would argue that Palo Alto, CA stands head and shoulders above the crowd in that respect. Ask anyone who lives there. One can have anything one wants in Palo Alto.....except possibly a long conversation with someone of...uh, "color".

Adding to the allure of Endearing & Everlasting Wealthy Whiteness are satellite towns like Menlo Park, Woodside, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View. If one has a "blue collar" in any of these towns, one either doesn't live there or else it has some silly "signature" just above the heart.

Well, I imagine you will be dragging your tentacles outside about now to scavenge for bits of flotsom to build your summer web. Good luck to you and your kind. Don't drink too much petroleum jelly.

Gee, I'm sure glad to learn about Houston from denizens of Heaven-on-Earth Austin, perhaps the most self-righteous human beings ever gathered in one place. Gosh, those of us who actually choose to live in Houston must be a bunch of mutated retards with scrambled brains to make such a conscious choice.

Fat? Funny, I'm back in Austin for a while, and one of my first reactions was how people here seem to tolerate a few more pounds than back in Hell Town. Might surprise some of you to know that there are actually parts of Houston that are civilized, comfortable and urbane; with attractive, friendly people who walk dogs and converse intelligently about world affairs, philosophy and art, who go to clubs and listen to live music, eat Mexican food just like in Austin, get scruffy, hate Bush and love each other -- and many of them are so far from the rat race you describe that you might even think they're from Austin.

Still, when it comes to art, Houston rules, ahead of all the other Texas cities. Fort Worth runs a close second.

Houston is the hottest, muggiest, most humid swamp of a city on the entire
gulf coast, definitely in the top three in North America. It has always been
like that, a miserable place for humanoids to live. The main reason it is
still inhabited is the air conditioner. Take away A/C and the population
will go away. It is literally a life line for human beings who live
    there.--Gerry--

Hey, Gerry is right-- Houston is a real hole. On the other hand, I'd say the
weather is pretty horrible in most parts of Texas (way too hot!). That's why
I live in the California Bay Area-- moderate temps, maybe a little too much
rain and fog,but nice breezes, and no mugginess. I have never lived in a
house with an air conditioner since I left Texas in 1968.
