Johnny Moyer has died. He was an old friend from way back. I first met
him in the summer of '62. I mourn his passing.

John R. Moyer John R. Moyer, age 64, died after a terminal illness on
Sept. 29, 2005, at his residence in Beaumont, Texas. He was born in
Beaumont and lived most of his life in Austin, Texas. His parents
preceded him in death, as well as his sister and second wife. He is
survived by three sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. John
graduated from The University of Texas with a Master's degree in
Musicology, but his lifetime work was as in carpentry. Music was always
a big part of his life. He played acoustic bass with Janis Joplin, the
Winter brothers and Kenneth Threadgill. He was a regular performer at
many Austin nightclubs. His later years were spent in Beaumont where he
cared for his mother until her death. Then he began an internet
business for wooden hand-crafted items which he made in a backyard
workshop. In compliance with John's wishes, his remains will be
cremated and the ashes scattered in Austin.
