Fwd: Profound disappointment: Crowd noise is unnecessary and off putting on Martha Stewart
An open letter to Martha Stewart sent today...

While this is no match for my disappointment in the disaster relief sent New Orleans and the military response to the disaster as though they were conducting an occupation, I felt compelled to write about both subjects that strongly affected me this morning.

I loved the MS show WITHOUT THE LIVE AUDIENCE. I am profoundly disappointed that crowd noise has been added to the elegant and dignified content I came to know and love. This WHITE NOISE is not what I missed while you were away, Martha.

Crowd noise adds nothing and is a poor substitute for program content. Isn't tv time valuable? Why would the producers want to waste broadcast time with audience reaction noise? Martha was never at a loss for content before.

I stopped watching The View when they spent a third of the time stepping on one another's lines and playing to the mob whose only contribution to the dialogue is the blather of frenetic screaming whistling stomping and clapping. I resent the disturbing of the peace of the morning in my home.

If I wanted Ellen or Oprah style cheerleading and applause interrupting every utterance I would watch those shows. I haven't turned on daytime television since your show ended and I see no reason to now. Muting the crowd response is too much trouble.

Whoever's idea it was to add the abomination of applause and a live audience is an idiot, a spoiler and a desecrator. A television audience response is meaningless. It doesn't add to the enjoyment of programing unless it's stand up comedy or a sit com. Those kinds of shows are the only excuse for it.

What's next, making lame jokes and giving away cars? Yech! The Price is Wrong!

Oh my god, they are giving away meatballs...That's the last straw...
