Mike-- maybe it's because I'm sitting at home today playing with my
part-Jewish grandson, but I find this song very moving as a sort of
children's song for a young cow-poke who's got a lot to learn about his
heritage. It was written many years ago, long before Kinky started to run
for office. Maybe the "yellow star on the sleeve" is a reworking of the old
cliche "wear your heart on your sleeve"-- wear your yellow star (ie, your
heritage io discrimination) on your sleeve. I also love the line about "ride
about 6 millian miles"-- one for every Jew murdered in the holocaust.
However, I do agree that all this is no reason to vote for Kinky for
governor, and it doesn't say much about whether he's a "flake" or not-- just
a very good one-time songwriter.
