Ed--Thanks for thr brief history of Texas politics. I don't necessarily
believe people should always vote for Democrats, but Kinkey is a joke
candidate. He might "shake things up" but not in a particularly helpful way.
Jon
The GOP of Texas
>evolved from the conservative Democrats right after
the era when
>Price Daniels, Sam Rayburn, LBJ, and those guys ran the
state.
>The Democrats have had some real prizes too, Dolpf, Mark, and
>Preston "Frijoles" Smith. THe only good Democrat I can
think of is
>Bob Bullock and he was not all that clean. And I could
name others.
>
>They were Democrats in name only. Sharpstown was
a Democratic event.
>I worked in the dirty tricks division of the
Sissy Farenthold
>campaign and we lost. I worked for Sarah Weddington
another Democrat
>and a good one who told me last month at lunch that
the Democrats
>are in deep shit in Texas and she should
know.
>
>I think that what happens when a joker wants to play
the deck really
>does get shuffled. Kinky is not funny, but he is
smart and he writes
>pretty good books and he rescues dogs. He will
throw a curve into
>the already set ways of these money spending
idiots.He gives the
>voters a choice other than the two modly old
parties.
>
>The Democratic Party in Texas has shot itself in the
foot and leg
>and stomach and is a hopeless case. Ann Ricahrds
thought she would
>win without trying and we bid her Aloha. Hightower
a good man was
>way to progressive for this state and the add with
him and Jesse
>Jackson shaking hands in front of a burning American
flag doomed
>him.
>
>The two senate seats are set for the
next decade. There are a few
>democrats out there but they sound a
lot like Republican clones to
>me. Their lives revolve around big oil
and big business. At least
>Kinky will start with an empty plate. We
are in trouble my friends
>and there are few ways to make changes and
Kinky just might be one?
>
>
>
>Charlie
>austin-ghetto-list-bounces at pairlist.net
>
>The
Kinkster
>business is typical if what goes on in politics today--
>
>embrace of "fake" candidates who
are really just
>celebrities with no
>real
experience or desire to run a state
>or work with legislators.
>The list of guys like this who
>have won on name
and failed once they
>got to the big house
>is
getting longer all the time-- Jesse Ventura
>and Arnold to
>name just two (well, you can add George W. Bush for
>that
>matter). Kinky is funny and creative, but if
he wins it won't
>
>be a big step forward for
>Texas.
>
>Jon
>
>
><;In
other
>political scuttlebutt I also plan to support Chris Bell
>for
>the Democratic candidacy taking on Gov.
Goodhair this fall. His
>
>formal announcement and
campaign kick off rally is on
>Sunday, Aug.
>14, at
2:00 pm on UT campus at the foot of the
>MKL statue near 23rd
>and San Jacinto. He's a proud
>alum.<br>&gt;When Chris Bell spoke as
>a virtual
>unknown to some 200 Deaniac-style
Democrats in Meetup at
>
>Scholz Garten in the Spring
he got a standing ovation from
>the
>entire room. He
is smart and focused and respects the
>electorate
>enough to tell the truth. That's a new political
>gambit for sure in
>these times. Unlike the
Kinkster, I feel
>sure he voted many times in
>the
last ten years, even in the
>US House of Representatives where he
>represented Harris
>County. His district was carved
up by the Deadly
>Delay
>Political SWAT team with
the Redistricting juggernaut we
>
>witnessed in the
Texas Legislature. It's get
>even
>
>

>
>
