will mark the opening of an exhibit by Sam Yeates at the South Austin Museum
of Popular Culture. A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday,
July 16th, starting at 7:09 pm. The show will run through August
14th.
>
>Born and raised in the Stephenville, Texas area, Yeates
graduated from North Texas State University with a BFA in Drawing and
Painting in 1974. After teaching at a private school in Dallas for about a
year, Yeates moved to Austin and soon began working at the Armadillo World
Headquarters, the premier music concert hall of Texas. Posters promoting
shows followed as well as album covers and other music related promotional
work. Clients included Warner Brothers Records, Budweiser and other national
firms. In the late 70's and 80's Yeates did a great deal of promotional art
for Lone Star Beer. Through this medium, Yeates' art traveled around the
world. In the nineties Yeates began work in the video game industry starting
with Origin, then Digital Anvil and Ion Storm in Austin, Texas. Through the
years, he has continued to paint and show his work. He is represented in
Dallas and Austin, Texas, Taos, New Mexico and San Francisco, California.
