Wow,
I used to watch Captain Video on tv when it first aired. I was riveted with the "live" tv and once saw a stagehand walking through the set and then behind a cardboard cutout of a space ship that was supposed to be trucking in outer space. I said, "Wait a minute, they're not really up there!" I was in elementary school.
Clark, another Austin theatre to my memory is a downtown venue that I believe was called the Texas Theatre. Anyway in 1958 I went there to see "Tobacco Road," quite risque for the time and me being a teenager and all. When I told my sister-in-law where I had been that afternoon she shrieked, "No, that's where rats run across your feet." She didn't seem to think that the movie was all that inappropriate.

Captain Video used to be a regular serial at The RITZ theater on Sixth
St., where only blacks, mexicans, and real white trash would tread.
Serials were about 12 or 13 chapters long and the chapter would change
every Friday until Captain Video or Tarzan finally won. Admission at
the RITZ $.05, Paramount and State, where all you folks went, $.13 for
children under 12.
