There was a large Alfred's in the village about a block and a half east
of Kirby, which I thought was the original Alfred's. It shut down
sometime after West University completely Yuppified. Hell I was an
Austin boy who thought Delis were only on TV and in New York. After
finding one in San Antonio and Alfred's in Houston, I knew Texas had a
lot of class. Probably had my first Lox and cream cheese bagel at the
San Antonio Deli

Alfred's was at Stella Link and a block off 610, 1 1/2 blocks from my

Houston terms, but certainly not walking distance.

It takes about 1 hour to go straight down to Freeport or Galveston.
Clark's house is about a 15" drive from my house.

Did you live in that area when Alfred's was there? I still remember the
wonderful odors and the great soup.
