Mike-- I'm trying to get used to the four more years syndrome although maybe it's too early to be sure. People may hate Bush passionately, but the problem is, nobody is passionate about being for John Kerry. It's partly his shifting and confusing positions (just how is he different from Bush on the war, for instance), but a lot of it is his lackluster, humorless personality. The other thing is that the Republicans have done a very keen job of turning Kerry into a big joke, much as they did with Dukakis-- he likes to windsurf, he uses big words, he flip-flops, he's just a one time war boat captain, not a real "commander in chief" type, he thinks we're not "sensitive" enough in Iraq and Europe, he's too negative,he's just a rich guy slumming in politics, etc, etc. Kerry can turn things around a little with taking some firm stands, getting out some stronger ads, etc., and maybe he and John Edwards can outdebate Bush and Cheney--but I'm not that optimistic right now.
