Michael,
I don't consider vocing strong opinions as ranting. I think you are right
about a relious/metaphysical way of thinking prevading
in this government's policy making. At first I thought it was just ignorance
on Bush's part when he used the word 'crusade' but I am beginning to believe it
is at the core of how he looks at things. The Naomi Klein article was very
interesting to me to read, I think you all have already read it, but it is a
great indication of how the administration thinks and a great indictment of the
incompetence of their planning ability. I don't think W and F and company
support Israel just because they are jewish, I think it is because they
sincerely believe it to be the only avenue to stablility in the middle east. My
fear is that they don't relie on advice from moderate Arabs but they like
people like chalabi because he reinforces their opinions. Wolfie was quite
shaken the only and only time he visited Bagdad and has never been back. At
one time he had wanted Bremer's job in Iraq, some of the magazines were calling
him Wolfowitz of Bagdad.
